Administration presidential bet Mar Roxas and running mate Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo on Tuesday asked the residents of Parañaque City to help improve their survey ratings ahead of the upcoming national elections in May.

“Dati four percent kami. Ngayon ay 20 percent. Pakiusap namin sa inyo, dagdag pa more!” Roxas asked some 4,000 supporters, who were all wearing yellow, at the Olivarez College Gymnasium in Parañaque City.

(Before, we got four percent. Now, we have 20 percent. We ask you to help us raise our survey ratings!)

Acknowledging his lackluster performance in the poll surveys, Roxas said he and Robredo wouldn’t be able to continue the reforms of the “Daang Matuwid” with only a 20-percent standing.

“Dahil kung 20 percent lang kami ni Leni, ‘di namin matutuloy ang ‘Daang Matuwid’ at ‘di namin magagawa ang layon na nais mangyari sa lungsod at sa ating bansa,” explained the Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer.

(If Leni and I will only get 20 percent, we will not be able to continue the “Daang Matuwid” and we will not be able to fulfill our aim in this city and in our entire country as well.)

“Di natin mararating ang magandang bukas na ngayon ay sisimulan nating matamasa at maramdaman. Dagdag pa more para sa ‘Daang Matuwid!'” said Roxas, eliciting cheers from the crowd.

Parañaque is led by LP stalwart Mayor Edwin Olivarez and his brother Parañaque Rep. Eric Olivarez, who both vowed that they are “supporting the LP 100-percent.”

Roxas also asked the citizens to “spread the good news of the ‘Daang Matuwid.’”

“Hinihingi namin ang tulong at suporta niyo. Ipahatid, ipaalam niyo sa mga komunidad at kapamilya niyo ang magagandang balita ng ‘Daang Matuwid’ at magandang bukas na mapaparating sa ating mga sarili kung itutuloy ang ‘Daang Matuwid,'” he said in his speech.

(We are asking for your help and support. Deliver and spread to your community and family members the good news of “Daang Matuwid” and we will face the good future if we continue the “Daang Matuwid.”)

Like Roxas, Robredo also noted her current standing in the surveys and hinted maybe the Parañaque voters could help her improve her ratings.

“Dati one percent lang ako. Ngayon 20 percent na rin ako at marahil sa darating na mga buwan, may two months pa dahil sa tulong ng mga taga Parañaque, marahil yata tataas pa,” she said.

(Before, I only got one percent. Now, I also have 20 percent and in the upcoming months, around two months from now, with the help of Parañaque residents, perhaps (my survey ratings) will continue to rise.)

The Olivarez brothers in their speech introduced Roxas and Robredo as the “next President and Vice President of the Philippines,” respectively.

The Parañaque lawmaker also urged his fellow Parañaqueños to support Roxas and Robredo in the elections.

“Kapwa Parañaqueños, susuportahan ba natin si Leni? At nakikiusap ako sa inyo, tulungan natin si Mar Roxas sa eleksyon,” Olivarez said.

(Fellow Parañaqueños, will we support Leni? And I am requesting you, let us help Mar Roxas in the elections.)

After Parañaque, the administration coalition bets will visit Las Piñas City—a day after Roxas’ rival Vice President Jejomar Binay campaigned in the city.

Las Piñas is the turf of former Senate President and Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Manny Villar. His son Las Piñas Rep. Mark Villar was among those being eyed by the LP to be included in its senatorial slate. The younger Villar, however, decided to seek reelection instead.

Afterward, Roxas and the rest of the LP candidates will head to Muntinlupa City where 8,000 supporters are expected to welcome them. RAM
