Former OFW needs aid for chemo
ANA Maria Jarligo was on vacation in her hometown of Sta. Rosa, Laguna province, after renewing her contract as an overseas worker in Dubai when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer.
The family breadwinner was spending the holidays with her mother and sister when she was found to have leiomyosarcoma. Her condition was detected by doctors at Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
“I was just taking the opportunity to have a routine checkup when they discovered a cyst,” said Jarligo, 49.
Her need to undergo a six-month chemotherapy forced her to resign from her job since she could no longer fulfill the contract that would have allowed her to work for two more years as a cashier at Al Atlal Roastry, a confectionery shop in Sarjah Halwan, Dubai, her employer since 2013.
“After informing (the company) of my condition, they told me that if I cannot go back in six months, they will automatically cancel my contract,” she told the Inquirer.
