Solar farm generates 25 MW for the Visayas

BACOLOD CITY—A solar farm in Silay City, Negros Occidental province, is now providing 25 megawatts of electricity to the Visayas grid.

The P2-billion facility is being operated by Citicore Power, which inaugurated the solar farm on Tuesday.

The 25 MW being supplied by the solar farm can light up 30,000 homes without emitting 18,000 metric tons of carbon per year that the same amount of electricity would pump into the atmosphere if the power source was coal.

The effect on the environment would be like planting 800,000 trees in 25 years.

Under the feed in tariff program of the government, the Silay solar farm in Barangay Rizal will sell electricity for P8.69 per kilowatt hour, a price guaranteed for 20 years. Carla P. Gomez, Inquirer Visayas
