The spokesperson of the Liberal Party (LP) said the camp of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was barking up the wrong tree by accusing LP standard-bearer Mar Roxas of being a protector or accomplice of drug lords.
As a former Interior Secretary, Roxas has “connections with the intelligence community,” said Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice.
Parting shot
“Having information [about] where drugs proliferate at this point in time is not a crime,” he said.
Erice took a parting shot at the Davao mayor: “But Duterte, busy with the campaign, has already abandoned his daily chores.”
Duterte’s spokesperson had said Roxas’ quip during the presidential debate about the proliferation of drugs in Duterte’s home city was tantamount to “irresponsible citizenship” as he did not disclose what he knew to the authorities.
Erice also reacted to Duterte’s statement that Roxas could never win the presidency even after 20 years.
“Then why bother criticizing (Roxas) every time an opportunity comes while praising [Vice President Jejomar Binay] despite the corruption allegations the latter is facing?” Erice said.
“I think Duterte is really afraid of Mar Roxas,” he said.
