A member of the Special Action Force (SAF) and his wife were killed in a road incident in Antipolo City on Tuesday evening.
The fatalities in the incident were PO2 Delbert Asoy, 33, a member of the SAF Rapid Deployment Batallion and his wife Marilyn, 27.
According to SPO3 Rina Mariquina of Antipolo Police, the Asoy couple was riding a motorcycle traversing the Lower Antipolo Road in Barangay (village) San Jose at 9:05 p.m. on Feb. 16 when they were sideswept by an Isuzu 10-wheeler truck with a plate number UVK 494.
The collision threw Marilyn off the motorcycle—where she was rolled under the truck’s tires. Her body was cut in half.
PO2 Asoy then introduced himself as a policeman to truck driver Luisito Galang and helper Nico Castillo to ask them to help bring his wife to the hospital.
However, Galang allegedly tried to drive away from the scene, prompting PO2 Asoy to fire warning shots.
Castillo was hit in the head with the bullet entering from the truck’s window. He was brought to Amang Rodriguez Hospital.
Marilyn, however, was dead upon arrival at the same hospital.
Investigators then found PO2 Asoy dead shortly after the incident.
According to Mariquina, authorities are still investigating whether there was foul play on PO2 Asoy’s death or the SAF member committed suicide.
The driver of the truck, Luisito Galang, is currently detained at the Antipolo Police Station. He will face inquest proceedings and may be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
