LA PAZ, Iloilo — Veteran actress Susan Roces finally broke her silence on Tuesday over persistent rumors that her sister, Rosemarie Sonora, is the real mother of Senator Grace Poe.
“Ay naku, alam mo kaya ganito ang attitude namin d’yan kahit anong paliwanag nakaraan na ang maraming taon, lumaki na si Grace; she’s past 40,” Roces said when asked about some people’s comment that Poe should take a DNA test with Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
(We treat it that way because no matter how we try to explain it, it won’t change that many years have passed and Grace is old now; she’s already past 40.)

Poe, who was found abandoned in a church in Iloilo when she was a baby, has been rumored to be an illegitimate child of Sonora with Marcos’ father and namesake, the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Their being siblings has become a running joke between the two senators until Poe’s cousin and Sonora’s real daughter, actress Sheryl Cruz, did not find the joke funny.
“’Yung sinasabi nilang anak s’ya ng kapatid ko, bakit ko ipagkakaila kung totoo?” Roces said.
(They’re saying that my sister is the real mother of my daughter. Why would I deny the truth?)

“Kasama ko ang kapatid ko, araw at gabi ng mga panahaon na ‘yun. Hindi ko s’ya nakitang nagdadalantao (I was with my sister every day and night around that time. I never saw her pregnant), that was 1968, the year I got married and later she herself got married.”
“During that time, Rosemarie, my sister was very busy doing television and she was very visible. Never, never s’yang naging pregnant (She was never pregnant),” Roces added. IDL
