Warning out on hair dye

/ 01:04 AM February 16, 2016

THREE hair dye brands that contain an ingredient banned in Europe for causing serious eye damage, respiratory irritation and fertility problems are being sold in stores in the country, an antitoxic consumer safety watchdog warned.

EcoWaste Coalition has asked the Food and Drug Administration to direct manufacturers to voluntary recall hair dye products that contain the chemical sodium perborate, following a product alert issued in Europe.

The European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Consumer Products said the United Kingdom recalled the brands Bigen Permanent Powder Hair Colour, Blasol Powder Hair Colouring Formula and JR Beauty Organics Permanent Powder Hair Colour for containing sodium perborate.

“Sodium perborate is toxic if inhaled, causes serious eye damage, is harmful if swallowed and may cause respiratory irritation. It may damage fertility or the unborn child,” the UK product recall notification said. Dona Z. Pazzibugan
