2 cops hurt in clash with NPA rebels

MANILA, Philippines—Two police officers were hurt in an ongoing clash with communist rebels in Surigao del Norte, a police spokesman said.

Two policemen from the Deep Recon Unit of the 13th Regional Public Safety Battalion were injured when they shot it out with suspected members of the New People’s Army in Barangay Anomar, Upper Sangay, Sison, Surigao del Norte at around 6 p.m., said Philippine National Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.

He said that three teams from the 13th RPSB were to reinforce those already engaged in combat.

Meanwhile, the PNP has coordinated with the Philippine Army in fighting off the rebels.
