Police rescue Pangasinan woman chained in house for 7 years

BUGALLON, Pangasinan—The police on Friday rescued a 33-year-old mentally challenged woman who had been chained at her home in Barangay (village) Umanday for seven years.

The woman’s left forearm was strapped to a metal chain in their house when responding police from the Women and Children’s Protection Desk found her at 11 a.m. She had been kept in that condition by her own family, police said.

Chief Insp. Joseph Imperial, Bugallon chief of police, said she was brought to the Bugallon Community Hospital to treat her infected wound which was caused by the rusty metal chain.
