Should he be elected President in May, Vice President Jejomar Binay would appoint Cavite Gov. Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla as his interior and local government secretary owing to his “experience and capability to do the job.”

Binay made the statement in Cavite City during the second campaign sortie of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance.

Binay said he asked the governor’s older brother, Cavite Rep. Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla, to run in the former’s stead because he needs the incumbent governor to help him in leading the country.

The governor had opted not to run for reelection.

Asked for his reaction to Binay’s announcement, the younger Remulla said the last day of his mandate as Cavite governor is on June 30.

“As much as I am honored by the gesture of confidence from the Vice President, finishing my term and the completion of my initiatives is my priority,” he said in a text message.

Is he open to the job as head of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)  in case Binay wins the presidency?

“I will serve at the pleasure of the President,” he said.
