PAL: Terminated employees not involved in technical maintenance

MANILA, Philippines–Philippine Airlines on Friday clarified that none of its terminated employees were involved in aircraft maintenance. The more than 2,300 separated workers belonged to the now closed Airport Services, Catering and Reservations departments.

PAL’s fleet of airplanes is being maintained by Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP), a joint venture with one of the world’s best aircraft maintenance service providers.

PAL made the clarification after one of its airplanes encountered a technical problem while in flight.

PAL flight PR300 bound for Hong Kong returned to Manila Friday morning after encountering a problem with the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft landing gear door.

Contrary to earlier news report, the pilot did not request for an emergency landing.

All 355 passengers were safe and transferred to a B747-400 that departed past noon on the same day.

The B777-300ER was towed to the LTP hangar for technical evaluation and repair.
