Honasan on Edsa people power: Hope springs eternal

SENATOR Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan on Thursday said he remains hopeful that the spirit of the Edsa revolution will live on.

During the Kapihan sa Senado on Thursday, Honasan said he differed from the position of Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, who earlier said the spirit of Edsa has disappeared like a bubble.

“I differ slightly with the minority floor leader. Dahil para sa akin, hope springs eternal. Kung mag-gi-give up tayo ngayon, paano na ang mga anak natin?” said Honasan, the vice presidential candidate of Jejomar Binay under the United Nationalist Alliance.

“I take a different view. Hindi ito parang bula. Nandyan pa rin ang hope natin,” he added.

Enrile earlier said during the Kapihan that the spirit of Edsa has died, resulting in a structure of government that only created “havoc” in the country.

“Naging bula (It became a bubble). Bula (Bubble). It was a bubble. Evaporated. And it created a problem because the incoming government, put all kinds of structures, political and economic and so forth that is now creating this havoc into the country,” Enrile said during a weekly forum at the Senate.

Enrile was the defense minister of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos when he broke away from the Marcos administration and led a people power uprising. Honasan was then Enrile’s chief security officer.

The country is set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the people power on Feb. 25.
