THEN AND NOW: Miriam Santiago dons vintage sunglasses in 1992 and 2016.
TWO days after the start of national campaign for the 2016 elections, presidential candidate Senator Miriam Santiago posted on Facebook a photo of her vintage sunglasses that she used when she first ran for president in 1992.
In the then and now photo, Santiago is shown in her vintage frames in the 1992 campaign and last Tuesday in Laoag Airport before the campaign launch.
“I still have my vintage round sunglasses that I used 24 years ago when I first ran for president #ThrowbackThursday,” the caption read.
Santiago, who claims to have controlled her stage 4 lung cancer, is seeking for the presidency for the third time. In 1992, she lost to Fidel Ramos with a narrow margin. In 1998, she ranked 7th out of 10 in a race that President Joseph Estrada won.
On Tuesday, she was in Ilocos Norte for her campaign launch with running mate Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. It was their first appearance as a tandem and her first provincial sortie. She has made very few public appearances since she declared her intention to run for president last October.
Santiago, who is doing poorly in opinion polls, is banking on her strong social media following and support from youth groups.
