COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The military on Wednesday said it had captured a ranking official of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and killed his son in a raid at their hideout here.
Col. Ranny Sevilla, commander of the 5th Special Forces Battalion, identified the BIFF official as Hasan Indal.
Sevilla said Indal was BIFF vice chair for internal affairs.
He said soldiers raided Indal’s house in Barangay Kalanganan at about 11:40 p.m. Sevilla added Indal had a warrant of arrest for murder and frustrated murder.
The rebel leader’s son, Hasan, resisted and was killed, Sevilla said.
He said the raiding team seized a “Baby Armalite” rifle, a .45-caliber pistol and a fragmentation grenade from the Indal house.
The suspect was detained at the holding facility of the police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group here.
