‘Presidentiables’ target criminals

presidential aspirants-0210WHILE thousands of supporters cheered on the five presidential aspirants at their individual kick-off rallies Tuesday, criminals must have quaked in their boots, as four of the candidates specifically said crime would be a priority target of their administration.

“I will have criminals killed and I don’t like drugs. Get out of here if you’re into drugs,” Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said in Tondo on Tuesday.

In Capiz province, Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas said: “We will not lose to abusers, to fraudsters and most importantly, we will not lose to thieves.”

In Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila, Sen. Grace Poe quoted her father’s famous movie line: “Puno na ang salop (Enough is enough)… our tolerance for corruption is at its end.”

In Batac City, Ilocos Norte province, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago promised that “all the people who stole the people’s money shall be sent promptly to brand-new jails… They can choose their jail, but they will all be jailed.”

Vice President Jejomar Binay was strangely silent on the twin issues during his rally at Nueve de Pebrero in Mandaluyong City, and focused instead on rosy campaign promises.
