PNP chief hails noncommissioned officers as ‘first responders’ vs crime
The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday hailed the performance of noncommissioned officers, saying they were the key to the success of the police’s peace and order programs.
Director General Ricardo Marquez made the remark during the oath-taking and induction of the newly inducted officers and board of trustees of the Police Non-Commissioned Officers Association Inc. (PNCOAI) in Camp Crame.
“The success of all our peace and order program lies on the commitment, will and effective performance of all our Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCOs) particularly those assigned in our police stations and precincts since they are our law enforcers who are in regular contact with the public and the first responders against any unlawful activities,” Marquez said.
“I encourage our newly elected officers and board of trustees of the PNCOAI to take a proactive role in guiding all our PNCOs throughout the country,” he added.
SPO2 Ferdinand Canoy, PNCOAI president and board chair, said the new set of officers aimed to “reflect a positive image to the public by rendering true service and in support to the back to basics program of the Chief PNP.”
“We will come up with necessary programs and activities to enhance the morale and welfare of all our PNCOs particularly the members of PNCOAI for them to show to our people that we are committed to begin the transformation from within ourselves for us to truly attain a highly capable, effective and credible police service,” Canoy said, noting the importance of patrolling services as the “backbone” of policing.
