MORO National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari met his followers in Sulu on Sunday, the military said.
The MNLF Misuari faction held a whole day leadership assembly at Camp Astana (residential place of Misuari) at sitio Bakud in Barangay Kagay in Indanan town according to reports of “concerned citizens,” said Joint Task Group Sulu Commander Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado.
He clarified that Misuari’s group had no intentions of a “hostile action plan” or something similar with the Zamboanga siege in 2013 that the rebel leader led.
The event was attended by about 2,000 people.
“The agenda of the meeting focused on the results of the tripartite review conducted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the continuous claim for the implementation of the 1996 final peace agreement and their own version of Bangsamoro independence in Mindanao,” Arrojado said.
Based on the reports of the informants, the attendees seemed happy with the non-passage of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.
The BBL was an agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which broke away from the MNLF due to disagreements.
Misuari has a standing arrest warrant for the Zamboanga siege in 2013, which killed dozens and displaced thousands.
At the meeting, the reorganizational structure was also discussed. Hadji Uto Karim Misuari has been declared vice chairman of the Central Committee.
His designation was due to the resignation of Orlando Olamit from Davao because of health reasons.
