Fire in Cebu destroys apartment, 2 nearby structures

CEBU CITY, Philippines–An apartment and two nearby structures were destroyed by a fire that broke out in Mercado compound located adjacent to the University of the Visayas in sitio San Jose, barangay Parian, Cebu City at 11:30 pm Sunday.

Fire investigators are looking at an electrical short circuit that occurred at the rented apartment of Sammy Labuel as the cause of the fire.

Labuel’s apartment is made of light materials.

SFO3 Daniel Relatado Jr. said Labuel told them that he heard an explosion prior to the fire which got contained in 15 minutes.

A part of the UV building was also damaged by fire. The damage was pegged at P250,000. TVJ
