Shot and wounded Tawi-Tawi mayor is now out of danger, say cops

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The mayor of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi who was wounded after he was shot in the village of Baliwasan here on Sunday morning, has been declared out of danger at the Ciudad Medical Hospital by physicians there, Supt. Luisito Magnaye, the city police chief said.

Mayor Jasper Que sustained wounds in the arm and body. He was immediately brought to the Ciudad Medical Hospital for treatment.

Senior Inspector Helen Galvez, spokesperson of the Zamboanga City Police Office, said Que, his driver identified only as Adjing and staff Jurmina Hashid were traveling from the Zamboanga City Airport to the city center when two motorcycle-riding men fired at them and hit the mayor.

Magnaye, the city police chief, said that as of Sunday afternoon, they were still determining the motive of the attack on the mayor.

Police have learned that Que, who is on his second term as mayor, is not running for reelection or for any government post.  He recently vowed to support the candidacy of administration presidential candidate Mar Roxas and the reelection bid of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Gov. Mujiv Hataman, according to background information gathered by the police.

Magnaye said physicians at the Ciudad Medical hospital have declared Que as out of danger.   SFM
