Cebu City holds first Korean Day

The Cebu City government, in cooperation with the Cebu Korean Association Inc., successfully held the first Korean Day on Oct. 1 at the Terraces in Ayala Center Cebu.

Hundreds of Cebuanos and Koreans witnessed the Korean cultural show that lasted for two and a half hours.

South Korea ambassador to the Philippines Hye Min Lee, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and Vice Mayor Augustus Young were present in the event that featured Korean traditional dances and costumes.

Performers from Yeosu City, South Korea and the University of Cebu dance troupe presented dance numbers.

The venue had booths selling Korean food.

“We (Koreans) feel very special to have this kind of event in Cebu,” said Yeo Hoon Kim, vice president of the Korean Women’s Association in Cebu.

Katrina Reyes, 19, one of the spectators, said the event deepened the relationship between the Cebuanos and Koreans.

The winners of the Cebu K-POP Star competition held last Sept. 30 also performed in the program.

The X Crew and Off Limits Crew, winners of several K-pop cover group competitions in Manila were also invited to perform during the event.
