4.7-magnitude quake hits Cagayan, Davao Occidental

Cagayan and Davao Occidental were hit by a 4.7-magnitude earthquake early Thursday but aftershocks are not expected, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

At 12:05 a.m., a tremor jolted 21 kilometers northwest of Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental.

The tectonic quake had a recorded depth of 60 kilometers. It was felt in: Malita, Davao Occidental– Intensity III; Alabel, Sarangani and General Santos City – Intensity II; and General Santos City – (Instrumental Intensity) Intensity III.

In 37 kilometers northwest of Calayan in Cagayan, a quake was recorded at 5:01 a.m.

Phivolcs said it had a depth of 10 kilometers and was also tectonic in nature.

No immediate damage was recorded from both quakes. Aftershocks are also not expected, Phivolcs said. CDG
