IS summer about to begin?
Not yet as the state weather bureau said the northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” will intensify this week.
Gener Quitlong, weather forecaster from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, said that the northeast monsoon will intensify anew after weakening last week due to easterlies, or warm winds from the east.
The northeast monsoon, responsible for cool weather, is prevailing in extreme northern Luzon, but it will reach Bicol region by midweek, Quitlong said.
“Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Visayas, Caraga and the province of Davao Oriental,” the weather bulletin for Monday afternoon said.
“Cloudy skies with light rains will prevail over the islands of Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of the country,” it added.
Meanwhile, the cloud cluster east of Mindanao is not likely to intensify as a low pressure area, Quitlong said.
