SENATOR Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III reported to the Senate plenary on Monday a partial committee report that recommended, among others, the filing of plunder and other criminal charges against Vice President Jejomar Binay and son, dismissed Makati Mayor Jun-Jun Binay, over the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall 2 parking building.
Pimentel chairs the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee that conducted the investigation on the alleged involvement of the Vice President in corruption.
The Senate investigation showed that the amount of the alleged overpricing scheme was from a low of P1.24 billion to a high of P1.389 billion.
“Such massive accumulation or acquisition of ill-gotten wealth, carried out from 2008 to 2013, could only be plunder,” the partial report said.
The Vice President was longtime mayor of Makati until he assumed the vice presidency in 2010, the same time his son was elected mayor in the city.
The subcommittee then recommended the filing of plunder and other cases against the father and son and other local officials and personalities involved in the alleged anomalous construction of the parking building.
