1 killed, 11 hurt in Olongapo City road mishap

OLONGAPO CITY—A man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a jeepney in Barangay (village) Kalaklan here last Sunday evening, police said.

The back rider of the motorcycle is in critical condition while at least 10 jeepney passengers were injured in the accident that took place along the national highway near Kale Beach around 7 p.m.

Chief Insp. Zaldy Lising, head of the city’s traffic investigation unit, identified the fatality as Arturo Simon, 44, a resident of Barangay Bodega, Floridablanca in Pampanga.

Lising said Simon lost control of his motorcycle that swerved to the opposite lane and collided with the approaching jeepney.

The jeepney hit a wall and fell on its side, Lising added.

The victim, a supervisor at the Taiwanese manufacturing firm Hokei Subic Corporation inside the Subic Bay Freeport, came from a beach outing before the accident, according to his relatives.

Simon was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, however, he was declared dead on arrival.

His companion, Joseph Toledo, is being treated in the same hospital.

All of the injured jeepney passengers were already discharged from the hospital, police said. RAM
