Amid the disqualification cases she is facing, Senator Grace Poe said that she did not regret her decision on not accepting the offer to become the running mate of her rival, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.
“Lahat yan bago ko pagdesisyunan ay medyo naisip ko nang mangyayari pero syempre hanggat hindi nangyayari, hindi mo naman talaga mararamdaman yung buong hagupit nito,” Poe said at a press conference in Cavite on Wednesday.
(I had thought about it quite a bit before I decided on these things but of course until it happens, you won’t feel its full attack.)
The senator was apparently referring to the cases thrown at her to stop her from running for president in the upcoming elections in May.
“Pero hindi ako nagsisi kasi ganito yan. Noong kami’y nag usap ng ating Pangulo, malinaw naman sa amin na ang aming sinisikap ay gawin kung ano sa aming pananaw ang magagawa naming kabutihan sa bayan. Kaya hindi ako nagsisi,” she said.
(I don’t regret because it went like this. When our President and I talked, it was clear for both of us that we are striving to do what we believe are good things that we can do for our country. That’s why I don’t regret.)
“Kung meron man akong ikinalulungkot ay syempre dahil ako naman po ay naging kasama ng ating Pangulo, yun lang,” the senator added.
(If there’s one thing that makes me sad is that I have been with the President.)
Poe reiterated though that she did not regret and would not change her mind about joining the presidential race.
However, she said her fight would have not been this difficult had she decided to run with the administration’s bet.
“Yun nga lang, ang alam kong sigurong hindi nangyari kung ako’y sumama sa kanila siguro hindi magiging ganun kabigat lahat ng mga kaso laban sa akin,” said Poe.
(The only thing is I know is had I joined them, cases against me wouldn’t have been this difficult.)
“Pero hindi naman natin malalaman, dahil tapos na yun. Iba na ang sitwasyon ngayon,” she further said.
(But we won’t know because it was over. The situation is different now.)
President Benigno Aquino III had met with Poe several times in Malacanang before the latter decided to throw her hat in the presidential race. RAM
