MANILA, Philippine – A police officer charged with the rape of a 17-year old girl challenged his accusers to a DNA test to prove if he is really guilty when he came before media in the Northern Police District (NPD), Thursday morning.
Senior Police Officer 1 Reggie Tayag, 41, of the NPD District Special Operations Unit (SPOU) said that he was willing to submit his DNA sample to see if it would match the DNA of the semen recovered from the girl.
Tayag vehemently denies the accusation and said that “If my DNA does match with the semen obtained from her, I would send myself to prison.”
The incident allegedly occurred on October 10, at 10 p.m. within the office of the DSOU, according to Police Chief Superintendent Antonio Decano, District Director of NPD.
The girl came into the DSOU as an asset with information to offer when the alleged rape occurred, Decano said.
Tayag, however, believed that he was being harassed by the girl, whom he said he did not know other than as an informant.
The girl had previously stolen the two cellphones of Tayag, They were later recovered from her and from a pawnshop. Tayag believes she was exacting revenge on him.
Decano said that the girl had also previously filed a rape case against her former boyfriend in Quezon City.
This is the first time in his 12 years of service that a case was filed against him, Tayag said.
Tayag has been relieved of his position and faces a possible administrative case aside from the criminal case that has been filed.
