CEBU CITY—Two teenage boys were hurt after they touched a live wire while trying to steal electric wires hanging near the Osmeña Boulevard exit gate of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City past 9 a.m. on Thursday.
The victims, both 15, were identified only as Badodot and Jenlan. They were brought to VSMMC for treatment.
According to witnesses, Badodot sustained severe burns on his face, arms and feet.
Meanwhile, Jenlan suffered minor burns.
Sidewalk vendor Ingrid Pescolante said the boys climbed the nearby skywalk to get to the bundled wires located near VSMMC’s Osmeña Boulevard exit gate.
Both then sat on the bundled wires.
Badodot tried to cut some wires using a pair of pliers while Jenlan got ready to pull out the wires.
Pescalante said she first noticed Jenlan fall on the ground—an eight-foot drop from the bundled wires.
Jenlan, who was no longer wearing his shorts, managed to run away from the skywalk area after his fall.
His pair of shorts was left hanging on the bundled wires although he still wore his shirt.
Badodot also fell and landed on his back.
The commotion roused a certain Carlo Bernabe from his sleep along the sidewalk.
He said that he saw Badodot still holding the pliers when his body got stuck on the bundled wires for a few seconds before he fell on the ground.
Responding policemen brought the two boys to the government hospital. RAM
