THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), in coordination with the Siquijor provincial government and Lazi National Agricultural School conducted the 2011 Skills Olympics as one of the highlights of the province’s Ruby Jubilee celebration.
The event aimed to showcase the talents and skills of the graduates in bartending and food and beverage services and to prepare for the regional skills competition.
It also aimed to raise the national skills standards to be at par with the global standards.
The first- to third-place winners of the bartending competition were Philmore Omandam Jr. from barangay Tigbawan, Lazi town; Paul Caga of barangay Poblacion Norte, Maria town; and Clyde Dag-uman of barangay Poblacion, Enrique Villanueva, respectively.
For the food and beverage services, first placer was Riza Ganuhay from barangay Simacolong, Lazi town, followed by Ricky Lantaca of Tubod, San Juan town at second and Harvey Marabillo of Tigbawan, Lazi town at third.
The Skills Olympics was held last Sept. 16 at the Sunken Garden of the Provincial Capitol.
