BOY DROWNS

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy drowned while he and his classmates were swimming under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, last Monday.

Jason James Vidal, a grade 4 pupil at the Mactan Airbase Elementary School, was declared dead at the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

According to the police investigation, the boy and his two classmates were told by their teacher, Marilou Solabo, to go home to secure an excuse letter from their parents for their absence last week.

But instead of going home, the three boys went swimming under the bridge.

Some people strolling under the bridge saw the three boys struggling in the water.

Jason was already submerged in the water when they were rescued.

MAN NABBED FOR MARIJUANA, ‘GUN’

POLICE arrested a man who was caught carrying a marijuana stick and a toy gun while walking along a road in barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City, last Tuesday dawn.

Erwin Cabatingan, 24, of barangay Bakilid, Mandaue, was detained at the Centro police station pending the filing of charges against him.

Police said Cabatingan was seen by barangay tanods tucking in a handgun in his waist while he was walking along Briones Street past 2 a.m.

Tanods apprehended Cabatingan and found out that the object tucked in his waist was a replica of a .38 revolver.
