More road closures, rerouting for Black Nazarene procession

Some roads in Manila will be closed to motorists as early as Friday evening for the procession of the Black Nazarene at the Quiapo district on Saturday due to installation of concrete barriers.

In a traffic advisory, the Manila Police District’s traffic enforcement unit said Katigbak Drive and South Drive, the northbound lane of Quezon and McArthur Bridge from Bonifacio Shrine onwards, and Taft Avenue from Freedom Triangle to Bonifacio Shrine would be closed to traffic starting 9 p.m. tonight ahead of the grand traslacion tomorrow.

The following roads, meanwhile, will be closed starting midnight: Stretch of McArthur Bridge, Jones Bridge, Quezon Bridge, Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Drive to T. M. Kalaw Street, both lanes of Quezon Boulevard from Andalucia/Fulgoso Street and España Boulevard/P. Campa Street for southbound and from Taft Avenue for northbound.

According to the Manila police, closure of some streets will take effect as the procession approaches, but the roads will be reopened once the tail end of the procession has passed.

Motorists who intend to pass through the stretch of Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard southbound will have to turn around to Anda Circle going to A. Soriano, right to General Luna to Burgos-Orosa Street, then left to Kalaw to Taft Avenue to point of destination.

Heavy vehicles like trucks intending to traverse the stretch of Bonifacio Drive southbound shall turn around Anda Circle going back to northbound lane of Road 10 to C3, to their point of destination.

Motorists from the southern part of Manila who intend to pass the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard from TM Kalaw to P. Burgos shall turn right to T. M. Kalaw Street, left to Orosa Street going to Intramuros, left to A. Soriano Street to their point of destination.

Meanwhile, vehicles from Burgos Street shall turn right to Finance Road to Ayala Avenue going to their point of destination, while vehicles using Taft Avenue northbound shall turn right to Ayala Avenue to their point of destination.

The police also reminded the public that designated parking areas for devotees at Luneta Park and Quirino Grandstand could be found at 25th Street from Bonifacio Drive to Delgado Street, westbound lane of T. M. Kalaw from Roxas Boulevard to Ma. Orosa, and service road of Roxas Boulevard from T. M. Kalaw to P. Ocampo.

Designated parking area at Quiapo will be at Isetann Mall in Recto and Plaza Sta. Cruz.
