BDO assures public of total cooperation in probe on altercation

Banco de Oro (BDO) on Wednesday assured that its management has been cooperating with authorities to resolve the issue involving an altercation between two of its clients.

On December 30, a woman allegedly attacked the mother-in-law of Quezon City 2nd District Representative Alfred Vargas inside BDO branch at the corner of Aurora Boulevard and Doña Juan street, also in QC.

“Regarding the incident that happened in BDO Aurora-Broadway Centrum Branch, it was between two clients and the Bank has responded accordingly to help resolve the issue between them,” BDO said in a statement.

“We have also been cooperating with the proper authorities. As it involves our clients, BDO is treating the matter with confidentiality,” BDO added.

Police reports said victim Nerissa Espiritu, 64, retired teacher and mother-in-law of Vargas entered the bank and went into the senior citizens’ lane.

After talking to her companion, Espiritu “slowly” proceeded to a vacant seat for senior citizens when the suspect, Cynthia Huang, 37, entered the bank and hurriedly occupied the same seat.

An altercation ensued after Espiritu confronted the suspect. The guards tried to pacify the two when the suspect grabbed an acrylic glass used to hold leaflets at the bank and hit the victim’s head several times.

Espiritu was immediately taken to University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Hospital.

The Quezon City Police have filed before the City Prosecutors Office an attempted homicide case against Huang.

Police Officers 1 Ruby Rose Rosales, Elaine Bibat, Dave Jonell Gomez and Frederick Salvador coordinated with the bank management and security personnel.

“The management of the bank refused to turn-over the suspect who stayed inside the bank,” the police report said.

The suspect only surrendered to the police at later on the same day at 7 p.m. after her counsel has arrived.
