Attempted homicide rap filed vs attacker of Alfred Vargas’ mom-in-law
The Quezon City Police have filed before the City Prosecutors Office an attempted homicide case against the woman who allegedly attacked the mother-in-law of 2nd District Representative Alfred Vargas inside Banco De Oro along Aurora Boulevard corner Doña Juan, Quezon City last Tuesday.
Suspect Cynthia Huang, 37, was already taken to the prosecutors office for an inquest proceeding.
An inquest is a summary investigation conducted by a public prosecutor in a criminal case involving a person arrested and detained without the benefit of a warrant of arrest for the purpose of determining whether the person should remain under custody and be charged in court.
Based on the police report, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. The victim, Nerissa Espiritu, 64, retired teacher and mother-in-law of the lawmaker entered the bank and went into the senior citizens’ lane.
According to the police report, after talking to her companion, the victim “slowly” proceeded to a vacant seat for senior citizens when the suspect entered the bank and hurriedly occupied the same seat.
An altercation ensued after the victim confronted the suspect. The guards tried to pacify the two when the suspect grabbed an acrylic glass used to hold leaflets at the bank and hit the victim’s head several times.

Article continues after this advertisementPolice Officers 1 Ruby Rose Rosales, Elaine Bibat, Dave Jonell Gomez and Frederick Salvador coordinated with the bank management and security personnel.
“The management of the bank refused to turn-over the suspect who stayed inside the bank,” the police report stated.
The suspect only surrendered to the police at later on the same day at 7 p.m. after her counsel has arrived.
Meanwhile, Huang filed a counter-charge against Espiritu for physical injuries, grave threats and robbery worth P100,000. RAM
