Cop shot dead at his Caloocan market stall
THE CALOOCAN police have offered a P300,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the man who shot and killed a law enforcer on Tuesday.
SPO3 Carmelito Silvino, 52, assigned at the Caloocan Police Station Traffic North, was attacked while tending his stall at Bagong Silang Wet Market around 12:20 p.m.
The gunman was described by witnesses to be between 5’4” and 5’5” in height, with fair complexion and of medium build.
Caloocan police chief Senior Supt. Bartolome Bustamante said Silvino—who managed a meat stall during the day and worked as a traffic investigator at night—had a heated altercation with other vendors in December.

Retired Leyte jail guard slain at QC home
A RETIRED policeman was killed by a still unidentified gunman on Tuesday at his Quezon City residence.
The police said SPO1 Sadino Atenta, 58, a native of Tacloban City, used to be a jail guard at Hinundayan Municipal Police Station in Leyte province before he retired in 2005.
Atenta was shot dead at 12:20 a.m. inside his house on Sitio Victoria, Veterans Village, in Barangay Pasong Tamo.
His two children were asleep in their rooms on the second floor when they were awakened by their dog’s barking.
They heard repeated knocks on the door, followed by gunshots, PO3 Jogene Hernandez said.
The victim’s wife, Flordeliza, later found her husband shot in the head and body.
Police are still investigating the motive for the killing since Atenta’s family said he had no known enemies. Erika Sauler
