MANILA, Philippines — The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced on Sunday that the decision to suspend classes and work in government offices is up to local chief executives.
According to the PCO, “Upon consultation with the relevant government agencies and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), cancellation of classes and/or suspension of work in government offices is given to the respective local chief executives, taking into consideration the situation in their respective localities.”
Previously, the Palace had been issuing suspensions of government work in response to the effects of various tropical cyclones entering the country.

Meanwhile, local government units have been issuing class suspensions in line with the Department of Education’s directive, which states that class suspensions for both online and face-to-face learning across all levels are automatically enforced when the state weather bureau raises wind signals, an orange or red rainfall warning, or a flood warning in areas under their jurisdiction.
