Is it summer already? Such is called a “monsoon break” the state weather bureau said on Tuesday.
The easterlies, or the warm winds blowing from the eastern section of the country, are the prevailing weather system this week despite the cool breeze expected because of the northeast monsoon (“hanging amihan”).
Jun Galang of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that such break is not unusual and that the northeast monsoon weakens even at its peak season.

The northeast monsoon started last October and usually peaks in January. However, even if it weakens due to easterlies, it will return later this week or early next week. By then, the cool weather will be back.
Since the start of the northeast monsoon in October, Metro Manila was at its coldest last Dec. 29 at 19.6 degrees Celsius and Baguio City with 12.8 degrees Celsius.

The whole country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly over Eastern Visayas and Caraga on Tuesday, Pagasa said in its weather bulletin. RAM
