Brother kills brother
A man was killed by his own brother on Wednesday morning in Tondo, Manila. Manila policemen are now on the lookout for Ryan Jay Manalang, 30, after he stabbed dead his brother Richard, 45, at their home on Perla Street, Barangay 63, Zone 6. Richard’s son-in-law Benjie Macapagal told police the brothers were having a heated argument before the stabbing occurred at around 9:20 a.m. Macapagal said the brothers had momentarily split up, but then resumed arguing, this time grappling for control over a bladed weapon. In the ensuing struggle, Richard was stabbed several times in the body by his brother. Ryan Jay fled from the scene, according to Macapagal. Richard was taken to the hospital but died at 10:12 a.m., case investigator Senior Police Officer 3 Paul Dennis Javier of the MPD-Homicide section said in his report. Macapagal initially refused to immediately file an official police statement, saying he would be attending to his father-in-law’s funeral first.—Jaymee T. Gamil
Fetus found in bag
It must not have been pleasant for Florides Montemayor, 64, a widow from Paradise Side, Road 10, Vitas, Tondo, Manila, to start her day with the sight of a dead child. Montemayor was passing by Road 10 on Wednesday morning, when she spotted a black shoulder bag left along the road in front of an SM Hypermart branch. When she checked the bag, she found a female fetus, estimated to be eight to nine months old, stuffed inside. Case investigator Police Officer 3 Amelito Lopez of the Manila Police District Homicide section said Montemayor alerted her barangay (village) chairman, Bobby Hernale, of the grisly find. Hernale, in turn, rang up the police. The fetus was taken to the police morgue by the Cruz funeral parlor.—Jaymee T. Gamil
