Several roads in Manila will be closed to traffic for the annual thanksgiving procession of the revered Black Nazarene.
The thanksgiving procession serves as a prelude to the bigger “Traslacion” procession scheduled on Jan. 9, 2016.
According to the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU), the following will be closed to traffic from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. ;
* Northbound and Southbound lanes of Quezon Boulevard (Quiapo) from Andalucia Street corner Fugoso Street up to Quezon Bridge
– Isetann/Q. Boulevard (Southbound) service road
– España Avenue/P. Campa and Lerma Streets
– Eastbound lane of Claro M. Recto Avenue from Rizal Avenue to S.H. Loyola Street.
MDTEU told motorists to brace for heavy traffic and advised them to take alternate routes.
Motorists coming from España Avenue going to the southern part of Manila should turn left to Nicanor Reyes Street, right to CM Recto Avenue then turn left to Rizal Avenue to point of destination.
On the other hand, all vehicles should turn right to Fugoso Street then turn left to Rizal Avenue to point of destination instead of going to Quezon Boulevard coming from Andalucia Street.
Meanwhile, all vehicles coming from Divisoria traveling eastbound lane of CM Recto should turn right or left to Rizal Avenue to point of destination while vehicles intending to pass S.H. Loyola St. coming from Balic-Balic area going to Quiapo shall turn left to CM Recto to point of destination.
On the other hand, all vehicles traveling eastbound of UN Avenue are advised to turn right to Taft Avenue or General Luna Street to point of destination.
Last year, the Black Nazarene thanksgiving procession attracted over 8,000 devotees most of whom carried replicas of the icon. RAM
