SINGAPORE – A man in his 40s was killed in an accident on the Pan-Island Expressway on Wednesday (Dec 30) morning that caused roads to be congested for more than two hours.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the accident, which occurred after the Lornie Road exit in the direction of Tuas, at around 10.30am.
SCDF officers found the man, who is believed to have been a motorcyclist, trapped underneath a car and used hydraulic rescue tools to release him. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) notified the public of the accident on Twitter at 10.32am.
It initially advised motorists to avoid lanes 1 and 2 of the expressway.
Subsequent tweets by the LTA said that the accident had resulted in congestion up to the Central Expressway exit.
As of 1.31pm, the expressway was still congested.
