Did you know: The first Rizal Day

02:50 AM December 30, 2015

Rizal day was first observed in 1898 under a decree issued by President Emilio Aguinaldo, two years after Dr. Jose Rizal was executed by firing squad on Dec. 30, 1896.

Rizal’s death anniversary was declared a national holiday by Act No. 345, which was passed by the Philippine Commission on Feb. 1, 1902. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
