2 soldiers killed in Marawi City shooting

DAVAO CITY—Unidentified armed men shot two soldiers in front of a radio station in Marawi City on Tuesday, the Lanao del Sur information officer said in a text message to the Inquirer.

Jennie Alonto Tamano said reports reaching her indicated that the soldiers, whose identities and units were unavailable as of posting time, were killed after the shooting incident around 11 a.m. outside the Ranao Broadcasting Corp. in Barangay (village) Pangarungan in Marawi City.

Tamano said based on information reaching her, the incident was caught on the station’s closed-circuit television.

“Gov. Mamintal Adiong shall release his statement within the day as he just arrived in the country from umrah (minor pilgrimage) in Saudi Arabia,” Tamano said.

Just a few days ago, unidentified armed men also fired at a news crew from the ABS-CBN station in Iligan City as they were returning to their base from Marawi City.
