MANILA, Philippines—A small-scale miner was killed in a landslide in Butuan City on Tuesday, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
Caraga police spokesperson Superintendent Martin Gamba identified the fatality as Daryl Gales, 20, who was involved in small-scale mining at P-8, Barangay Maibu in Butuan City at around 5 p.m.
When a landslide hit the area, Gales and some of his companions were working at the site and were immediately buried.
His three companions tried to rescue him but he was already dead when his body was recovered at around 7:30 p.m., said Gamba.
Gales’ remains were brought to Mata Funeral Homes in Ampayon town, Butuan City.
