Palace downplays Communist Party’s expansion claims as ‘propaganda’

Malacañang on Sunday denied claims of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) that it has expanded its forces in Eastern Mindanao, calling it as a form of “propaganda.”

“Walang katotohanan ang propaganda ng CPP-NPA (New People’s Army) hinggil sa umano’y paglawak ng kanilang puwersa sa Silangang Mindanao,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said over state-run Radyo ng Bayan.

Citing government data, Coloma said CPP’s claims of its supposedly increasing members are contrary to facts.

Coloma said the data would prove CPP’s weakening in all aspects, adding that the group’s claims were part of an alleged extortion ahead of the 2016 national elections.
