Christmas Day fire leaves 4 families homeless in QC

A FIRE in Quezon City left four families homeless on Christmas Day.

Chief Insp. Arnold Ulanday, deputy district fire marshal for operations of the city’s Bureau of Fire Protection, said Friday that the blaze on Roosevelt Avenue near the corner of Batangas and Mangga Streets in Barangay Veterans started at 2:15 p.m. in the two-story house owned by Rey Vega.

According to him, Vega’s family came home around noon from Camarin, Caloocan City, where they had noche buena. Two hours later, Vega and his live-in partner were awakened by his 7-year-old grandson who told him that their house was on fire.

The blaze, which reached the second alarm quickly, engulfed the house and three others nearby made of light materials. It was put out at 2:57 p.m. although the cause has yet to be determined. Ulanday estimated the cost of the damage to property at around P50,000. Jovic Yee
