2 ‘choosy’ taxi drivers apprehended under ‘Oplan Isnabero’

MANILA, Philippines — Two choosy taxi drivers have been apprehended under the Oplan Isnabero of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

As part of the preparation for the holidays, the LTFRB on Monday started fielding a team in the taxi bays of shopping malls in Quezon City, Makati City and Mandaluyong City to randomly check drivers who turn down passengers.

LTFRB Chair Winston Ginez said Inspection Report Summons have been issued to the apprehended drivers and a hearing would be set. He did not identify the drivers.

The violation carries a penalty of P5,000 under the Joint Administative Order No. 2014-01.

The LTFRB has also launched Oplan Krismas 2015 and formed a team to monitor and inspect bus terminals in Metro Manila.

The team will be inspecting the terminals from Dec. 21 to 24 and Dec. 28 to 30, during the influx of passengers who will be going to the provinces for the holiday break.

To ensure enough bus units for travellers, Ginez said 301 special permits were issued to provincial bus firms out of 372 applications.

An additional 655 units with these permits will be allowed to operate during the Christmas break, with another 178 units waiting approval. (With Krizia Jamille Yap, trainee). SFM
