3 wounded in Zamboanga City explosion

ZAMBOANGA CITY—Three persons—including an 11-year-old boy—were injured in an explosion in Barangay (village) Talon-talon here on Thursday evening.

Chief Inspector Joel Tuttuh, spokesperson of the Zamboanga City Police Office, said on Friday the explosion took place at the gate of YL Fishing Corp. along Logoy Diutay around 11:11 p.m.

“No one was killed but at least three were wounded and they sustained multiple injuries on their bodies,” Tuttuh said.

The victims were identified as Ranillo Rojo Agan, 45, a security guard of YL Fishing Corporation; his son Arvin Agan, 11; and Carlito Magallanes Bastian, 45, also a security guard.

All the victims were brought to the Zamboanga City Medical Center for medical treatment.

Tutuh said the blast damaged the gates and the wall of the said establishment and a TV repair shop nearby.

He said authorities recovered pieces of an improvised explosive device from the place of the incident.

Jimmy Yap, owner of the YL Fishing Corp., said he could not say yet what triggered the attack but suspected a supposed rift between some workers.

He denied speculations about extortion, according to Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, the city police director.

“In an initial interview with the owner, Mr. Yap he told us the company did not receive any extortion letter lately and believed that the incident was caused by internal trouble among his workers,” Casimiro said. RAM
