SC holds necro rites for Justice Feliciano

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hold today necrological services in honor of its retired Associate Justice Florentino Feliciano, a highly-regarded and well-admired lawyer who died on Tuesday at 87.

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is expected to lead the rites to be held this morning at the high court’s En Banc Session Hall at the Supreme Court compound on Padre Faura Street, Manila.

The high court had announced his passing “with deep regret” on Wednesday.

Feliciano is survived by his wife Virginia and children and in-laws Josephine Ann and Emmanuel, Regina Stella and Hans, and Robert and Des.

Feliciano was the Supreme Court’s 115th member, serving the court from Aug. 8, 1986, to Dec. 13, 1995.

In a statement released by his family, Feliciano was remembered as “a legal luminary… widely known for his experience and expertise in Commercial and International Trade Law.”

Feliciano graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines in 1952. He obtained his Masters of Law and Doctor of Juridical Science from Yale University.

He spent more than 20 years in private practice, serving as partner at SyCip Salazar Feliciano & Hernandez from 1962 to 1983, and managing partner from 1983 to 1986.
