Loss to property increased to P320 million due to ‘Nona’—NDRRMC
Loss to property due to typhoon “Nona” (international name: “Melor”) has increased to P320 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.
In a press briefing, NDRRMC spokesperson Mina Marasigan said the damage to agriculture and infrastructure in Calabarzon, Bicol and Eastern Visayas reached a total of P320,025,710.96.
The typhoon, which was downgraded into a low pressure area as of midday Thursday, also left 109,065 houses damaged.

Official death toll stood at 8 while 12 were injured, Marasigan said.
Article continues after this advertisementTwo of the fatalities were recorded from Sorsogon; two from Northern Samar; one from Samar; one from Romblon; one from Albay and one from Masbate.
Article continues after this advertisementAs of posting time, an estimated 12,000 families are still sheltered in evacuation centers.
Nona, which slammed parts of Eastern Visayas and Luzon, dumped heavy rains, damaged roads and bridges and toppled power and communication lines.
The typhoon also canceled dozens of domestic flights and suspended classes.
Albay and Sorsogon were also placed under state of calamity due to Nona.
At its peak, the typhoon made landfall six times. Metro Manila also experienced heavy rainfall in the past two days.

Marasigan said in Northern Samar, one of the provinces hardest hit by Nona, all cell sites were down.
Several roads in Central Luzon, Claabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Eastern Visayas were still not passable, she said. RAM
