Various local government units have declared class suspensions for December 15 and 16 in their respective areas due to the bad weather brought by typhoon “Nona” (international name: Melor).

According to the 11 a.m. bulletin of the state weather bureau Pagasa, typhoon Nona packs maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph.

As of 1 p.m., it was tracked in the vicinity of Catarman, Northern Samar, moving west at 17 kph.

Public Storm Warning Signal No. 3 was raised in 10 areas: Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate (including Ticao and Burias Islands), Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar and Biliran.

Meanwhile, Signal No. 2 was hoisted in Camarines Norte, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, Southern Quezon, and Leyte.

Signal No. 1 was raised in Metro Manila, Bataan, Bulacan, Lubang Island, Coron, Cavite, Rizal, rest of Quezon including Polillo Island, Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Northern Negros Occidental, Northern Iloilo, Dinagat province and Siargao Island.
