‘Nona’ intensifies further; Pagasa may raise Signal No. 1 in Metro Manila Monday

TYPHOON “Nona” has intensified further as it continues to threaten Samar-Sorsogon area, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said late Sunday night.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, Pagasa said public storm warning signal number 3 (121-170 kph) was raised in Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay including Ticao Island, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar.

Meanwhile, signal number 2 (61-120 kph ) was hoisted over Masbate including Burias Island, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Marinduque, Romblon, Southern Quezon, Leyte and Biliran.

Signal number one (30-60 kph) was up in Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, the rest of Quezon, Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Northern Negros Occidental, Dinagat province and Siargao Island.

It is possible to raise signal number one over the rest of Southern Luzon and Metro Manila today (Monday), Pagasa said.

Pagasa said storm surges of up to 3.6 meters are possible over the areas under signal number 2 and number 3.

At 10 p.m. Sunday, the eye of Typhoon “Nona” was located based on all available data including Guiuan Radar at 325 km East of Catarman, Northern Samar (coordinates: 12.3°N, 127.6°E).

It has maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph. Moving west at 19 kph.
