Quezon City was created on Oct. 12, 1939, through Commonwealth Act 502 with the late President Manuel L. Quezon serving as the city’s first mayor in a concurrent capacity. Quezon immediately appointed Tomas Morato, who was sworn in as the city’s mayor, on Nov. 10, 1939.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
